COVID-19 – Latest Club News

Update – 23rd March 2020 at 7.00pm:

The Clubhouse and golf course will remain closed until further notice.

Governmental advice has not been forthcoming with regard to the outdoor part of our licensed premises (the golf course facilities) or with regard to a request for the temporary change to our licensed premise to exclude the course.

As a result, all access to the Clubhouse, Course and Club Premises is forbidden and all golf play has been suspended.  At present, Tuesdays competition and social play is cancelled and Wednesdays competition and social play will be reviewed and a decision made whether it will proceed tomorrow.

The Management and Board are assessing and monitoring the situation on an hourly basis and exploring all avenues for the benefit of members.

All services through the Golf Shop and the Office will be very limited and members should refer to the members website, club Facebook, their email and the club website for updates.

COVID-19 LATEST – The Clubhouse and golf course are now closed until further notice.

As of 12.00pm today, Monday, 23rd March 2020, the clubhouse and golf course have been closed until further notice.

We are seeking advice from Golf Australia, Clubs Queensland, Golf Management Austra, Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation and the Prime Minister’s Office to determine whether golf can continue, as the golf course is a part of our licensed premises, which has been directed to close down.

This is a dynamic situation which changes by the hour and we will endeavour to keep you all up-to-date with the latest information.

Please observe all the recommendations from the Government with regard to the pandemic, especially the social distancing and the hygiene.

As of Wednesday, 18th March 2020, the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) has had the following affects on your golf club:

A) Outdoor Gatherings are restricted to less than 500 attendees – this should not have an affect on the club golfing fixtures, however, we must advise that Social Distancing rules apply (that is, people should keep 1.5 metres apart) and hand hygiene should be followed;

B) Indoor Gatherings are restricted to up to 100 people (including staff), within a single enclosed area or room.  Our entire Clubhouse is affected by this as it constitutes one enclosed room.  As a result, we have removed almost half of the chairs and tables and have increased the distances of seating to comply with the 1.5 metre social distancing rules.  Again, hand hygiene is expected;

C) Event Cancellations are detailed below;

D) Golf Events at this stage will operate as normal – please refer to the booking website for timesheets and changes, however, some shot gun starts may be amended to running tee starts;

E) PINK DAY CHARITY GOLF DAY – is expected to continue as per schedule, however, attendees will be encouraged to observe the 100 person limit the Clubhouse and so the event presentation will occur outside on the deck and grassed area near the 18th hole.  Participants are asked to assist us by congregating outside and also observing the 1.5 metre social distancing rules;

F) Courtesy Bus will not be operable until further notice;

G) Restaurant will operate as normal as best it can and we encourage members, guests and visitors to assist the restaurant team by utilising their services.  All buffets have been ceased and limited menus may apply through the coronavirus period.  If in doubt, call the restaurant;

H) Competition Darts will continue at the discretion of the Bribie Island Darts Association.  Tonight’s games at the Club are still on.

It must be remembered at this time, that things may change on a daily basis so be aware of any changes and we will attempt to bring them to you on a timely basis.  We are all suffering at this time with the restrictions in place but we encourage you to continue with your golf, use best hygiene practices, observe the changes in place and help your Club and its associated businesses survive through these tough times.

OTHER THINGS TO ASSIST IN THE REDUCTION OF SPREAD OF COVID-19

Other things to observe are:

If you have a fever, cough or difficulty breathing, seek medical care early – DO NOT GO TO GOLF;

Stay home if you feel unwell;

Avoid queues in the golf shop and clubhouse;

Maintain the 1.5 metre social distancing rules;

Avoid touching any surface or leaning on surfaces;

Do not shake hands before or after your round;

Wash your hands thoroughly after handling money and receiving your card;

Do not “toss the balls up” to select playing partners;

Only handle your golf equipment;

Avoid touching the flagstick – if you have to, use your gloved hand.  Also use your gloved hand on bunker rakes;

Putt with the flagstick in;

Do not ride in a motorised cart with another person (family members are OK);

Keep your clubs clean;

Keep your golf cart clean;

Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with soap and water or an alcohol based hand rub;

Avoid touching your face especially your mouth, nose and eyes.

The Club is ensuring to keep its hygiene standards high by cleaning all surfaces with disinfectant sprays on a regular basis including kiosk screens, door handles, tables, chairs and equipment.  We have removed water jugs from the bars and encourage patrons to ask for water as opposed to self-service.  We have removed the practice putting pins on the practice green.  We are encouraging staff to promote excellent hand washing techniques.
